My my My my
Statement about League Change

Thank you to all of those who are part of our great organization, the Fairfield Youth Athletic Association (FYAA Football). I've had the opportunity to interact directly with many of you over the past years either coaching or in my role handling football administration for our organization or the league.  For those of you, I don't know I look forward to meeting you during the upcoming season.

I've been a part of the Fairfield Youth Athletic Association for over 13 years and have had four boys all play football.

As President of FYAA, my primary goal is to make sure the league in which we play provides a fair, safe, instructional, and fun experience for all the boys and girls that are a part of it. I believe our organization also offers a great opportunity to join together a community of great parents that want their boys and girls to experience and develop friendships, learn teamwork, and be better players.

The Greater Cincinnati Youth Football League (GCYFL) of which Fairfield was a founding member, has gone through several changes over the last few years.
Many of these changes were not to the benefit of our Fairfield organization and many times overlooked the rules and bylaws which Fairfield worked so hard to put into place during our inaugural year. Additionally, while our league had a large membership there were several organizations that would not agree to play Fairfield. For these reasons and other issues, our FYAA Board has made the decision to withdraw from the GCYFL effective for the 2023 season. We are not the first organization over the last couple of years to decide to leave the GCYFL – the Little Miami organization withdrew from the league in February of this year.

Fairfield is not alone – Lakota Youth Football and Mason Youth Football are joining with Fairfield in withdrawing from the GCYFL, and as mentioned previously the Little Miami organization withdrew from the league in February of this year. The GCYFL is now without its four largest organizations.

I am excited to announce that Fairfield, Lakota, and Mason have been working tirelessly over the last two months to establish a new league that will improve our organizations, coaches, players, and parents’ experiences. In addition to these three members, there has been a tremendous amount of interest from other organizations to be part of our league in its first year. We have created a new set of league bylaws that will focus on keeping the playing field level, competition fair, and cost down. Any organization that wishes to join our new league must commit to these requirements and the consequences of breaking our rules.

Fairfield youth football is a community of dedicated adults. From the volunteers and coaches who selflessly devote their time to helping kids learn a sport, to the parents who staff the concession stand, to our FYAA Board, who work diligently to ensure that the kids have the equipment and facilities to play, it takes everyone to make youth football succeed in a community – so THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who helps to make our program so successful!

As we move forward look for updates from your Fairfield Board, Team Moms, and Coaches about the 2023 schedule, and new league members. It is our intention to make the transition to our new league as seamless as possible.

Cordially yours,

Randy Mefford
